A ray of hope for visually impaired people in vulnerable regions

The Saint Lucy Foundation was established in 2013 as an independent foundation by a married couple, both of whom are doctors. The founders aimed to break the cycle of poverty by providing medical help during their lifetime and, particularly, and for generations to come.

In concrete terms, the foundation aims to help as many people as possible to get the care that they need to cure the eye conditions that affect them.

Swiss Optician Store with Major Support

The eyewear store Park Optik in Sursee is supporting the Saint Lucy Foundation with a special initiative: When purchasing a pair of glasses, customers receive a certificate informing them that a portion of the purchase price is donated to the Saint Lucy Foundation. At the same time, the sales staff educate customers about the foundation’s work and encourage them to make an additional donation or purchase one of the colorful glasses cases produced by the foundation in Tanzania. The year-long initiative has been met with great enthusiasm. Not only does the foundation benefit from this initiative, but the eyewear store also gains through this positive image campaign.

Engagement at the Flea Market in Zug (Switzerland)

Thanks to the fundraising appeal in the “Swiss Optician” magazine, we received many glasses from opticians (see article below). The number of donations was so large that we couldn’t transport all the glasses to our clinic in Momella (Tanzania) at once. To still make good use of the donated glasses and help those in need, we offered them at a flea market in Zug. The visitors were impressed with our work and bought several pairs of sunglasses and reading glasses to support the Saint Lucy Foundation.

In the December 2023 edition of the specialist magazine "Schweizer Optiker", the Saint Lucy Foundation was the subject of a pleasing report that met with great interest from readers. This article provided detailed insights into the history of the foundation and its current projects.
